Sophomore Communications Major at University of Pennsylvania (starting this fall as a transfer student). Washington and Lee University (2014-15) 3.68 GPA Undeclared major As a senior in high school, I was also admitted to University of California San Diego, Cal Poly San Louis Obispo, University of Washington Seattle, Franklin and Marshall College, St. Olaf College, College of Wooster, University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, and University of Richmond. When re-applying to colleges as a transfer student, I was admitted to the University of Pennsylvania, Macalester College, University of Southern California, Washington University in St. Louis, Occidental College, Lewis and Clark College, University of Puget Sound, Northeastern University, Bard College, Sarah Lawrence College, and Willamette University.
Experience
After finishing my freshman year at Washington and Lee University in Virginia, I decided to take a gap year. Since then, I have completed a year of full-time service with City Year Detroit, a division of Americorps. I worked full-time in a Detroit public school with at-risk seventh graders. I primarily tutored them in math and work on their socio-emotional skills. This summer I have worked as a counselor at Camp Galileo, a camp committed to encouraging kids to be innovators and embrace science and art. I also previously worked as a teaching assistant at a science-focused day camp with students aged 5-12. In high school, I taught tot sports to kids ages 3-8. Last summer, I worked at a summer camp for people with developmental disabilities, which taught me to be patient and to communicate in different ways. I want to be a tutor because I've found the connection that I've made with my students this year, and in past experiences, to be incredibly rewarding. As much as I'm able to teach them about math or writing, they always surprise me with small, but impactful life lessons.
